The Owner-Operator's Guide to the One Big Beautiful Bill

In July of 2025, the 119th United States Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), with the House passing the final version on July 3, 2025. This major legislation was crafted to make many of the individual and estate tax cuts from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) permanent. Many tax provisions in the original TCJA were scheduled to "sunset," or expire, at the end of 2025. This was done to satisfy the Senate budget reconciliation process, which places certain budgetary constraints on legislation. The OBBBA makes many of these expiring rules permanent, alongside several new temporary tax cuts.
